A quarter of a century of partnership, pioneering spirit and trust

Since 2000, Gloor Instruments and ZEISS have enjoyed a close and successful partnership in the field of electron microscopy.
However, the roots of this story go back even further: as early as 24 years before the official partnership with ZEISS began, our founder, Fritz Gloor, had already made a decisive impact on the Swiss market with EDX systems. With his passion for precision, his keen understanding of customers’ needs and his uncompromising commitment to quality, he laid the foundations for the success of Gloor Instruments.

In our second anniversary video, Managing Director Harry Brandenberger and company founder Fritz Gloor look back together on 25 years of partnership and talk about the early days of Gloor Instruments and key milestones.

‘We already had a good relationship with LEO – which later became ZEISS. When Peter Fruhstorfer asked me if we wanted to take on the distribution for Switzerland, I didn’t hesitate. This meant we could offer our customers a complete, one-stop solution for the first time – a crucial milestone on our journey.’

Over the past 25 years, Gloor Instruments has steadily expanded its position and now supports over 150 installations in Switzerland – around two-thirds in industry and one-third in research. A few milestones stand out in particular:

In 2007, three NVision FIB systems were sold to ETH Zurich, the Paul Scherrer Institute and EPFL. One particularly challenging project was the installation of an FIB in a hot cell for radioactive materials at the PSI. And at the Technorama, we are represented by a system that we were able to donate in collaboration with our customers – a strong statement by ZEISS and Gloor Instruments in support of the next generation.

These shared values – commitment, customer focus and technological excellence – have characterised the partnership between ZEISS and Gloor Instruments for a quarter of a century. They enable us to combine high-end technology with personalised support and to offer our customers the best solutions over the long term.

In a fast-paced world, it is something special when a genuine partnership endures for decades. We look back with pride on this time together – and forward with joy to what lies ahead.
